The Pic du Midi d'Ossau (2,884 metres), the emblem of the Ossau Valley!
Few mountains keep a haughty solitude to be a whole landscape by their unique presence. So is the Pic du Midi d'Ossau.
Located in the heart of the National Park, the latter stands out as the emblem of the Ossau Valley and more broadly of the Béarn.
Culminating at 2884m, this ancient volcano is a must for lovers of hiking and climbing.
For sports enthusiasts and seasoned hikers, the Tour de l'Ossau is one of the most famous hikes in the Ossau Valley: If you only had to hike in the Pyrenees National Park, this would be yours!
Over 15 km and 1200 m of elevation, you will rub shoulders with the Ossau under all its faces, cross beautiful wild valleys where the most emblematic fauna of the Pyrenees takes refuge.
From the Pombie refuge, every summer, many climbing and mountaineering enthusiasts embark on the ascent of this legendary peak.
Its normal route is the easiest route to reach the summit.
This hike-climbing requires good preparation and a good level of walking, given its length and its difference in altitude (a day and a positive difference in altitude of more than 1000m).
The alternation of 3 chimneys of about twenty meters (by safety take a rope of 50m to cross them and a helmet for the whole ascent) and single-step passages brings a playful side to this ascent.
However, this summit should not be underestimated as it requires a dose of experience… and wisdom to know how to give up if time does not lend itself to it.
A professional accompaniment is strongly recommended as well as the helmet and a rescue rope.
At the top, a reward awaits you: a breathtaking 360° view!
