The GR10
The GR10 is a famous long-distance hiking trail that crosses the Pyrenees, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, offering hikers breathtaking scenery featuring lakes, mountain passes and iconic Pyrenean peaks.
In the Ossau Valley, the route takes you past iconic sites such as the Ayous Lakes, Lake Bious-Artigues and the majestic Pic du Midi d’Ossau.
From the Aspe Valley to Gabas via the Ayous Lakes
Coming from the Aspe Valley, the route to Gabas passes through the Ayous Lakes area, one of the most famous sites in the Ossau Valley, offering a stunning view of the Pic du Midi d’Ossau.
There are several accommodation options for hikers:
- One or more nights at the Ayous refuge, open from May to the end of September (check availability)
- Bivouacking near Lake Gentau (check regulations)
- Bivouacking in the area reserved for GR10 hikers, near Lake Bious-Artigues

From Gabas to Gourette: two possible routes
The next stage links Gabas to Gourette and can be completed via two routes: the classic GR10 route or an alternative route offering a chance to discover different mountain landscapes.
Camping is permitted in accordance with mountain regulations, i.e. more than an hour’s walk from any road access.
Gourette, a mountain resort, offers various amenities (shops, stores, accommodation, hotels, etc.)

From Gourette to the Hautes-Pyrénées
From Gourette, the GR10 continues its route towards the Hautes-Pyrénées, crossing the Col de Tortes and offering another chance to immerse yourself in the high-altitude landscapes of the Pyrenees.
