Walks in the high mountains
 

Lake Bious-Artigues

Starting point:
Bious-Artigues
Duration: 1 hour round trip - except during winter

The walk around Lake Bious-Artigues is a peaceful hike, ideal for recharging your batteries in the heart of magnificent natural surroundings, between mountains and forests, with breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks, including the unmissable Pic du Midi d'Ossau. 

Route:
Park in the Bious-Artigues car park (3 disabled spaces).
Follow the GR10 trail and turn back when the slope becomes steeper.
(You can also walk around Lake Bious-Artigues, but some sections are difficult for people with reduced mobility).
Accessible toilets available on site.


Pont de Camps - D934

Starting point: Hydroelectric power station car park
Duration: 1 hour round trip - except during winter

Pont de Camps is the perfect place for a picturesque mountain walk. Located at the water's edge, the trail runs through the Brousset Valley between the river and rocky outcrops. In summer, you will probably come across herds grazing in these pastures. 

Route:
On the road to Col du Pourtalet, park in the large car park at the Pont de Camps hydroelectric power station (50 metres before the restaurant Le Chalet de l'Hermine).
Walk up the road for a few metres and, before the bridge, take the track on the right signposted Parc National.
Turn back when the path becomes too steep/rough, at the boulders.


Marmot Meadow - Gourette

Start: Top of the Bézou cable car - Gourette
Duration: 30 mins round trip - When the resort is open and outside the winter season

In the heart of the Cirque de Gourette, the trails criss-cross the mountains on the Bézou plateau and allow you to discover the resort's sublime, iconic peaks. If you're lucky, you might even spot a few marmots along the way...

Route:
When you arrive at the Bézou cable car, turn left and follow the main track that runs horizontally (do not take the tracks that go downhill).
After the first junction, continue straight ahead. The trail descends slightly towards the Sarrière chairlift station.
Turn around.
Accessible toilets are available on site at the Le Cairn mountain restaurant.

Walks along the water's edge



Lac de Castet - Gave d'Ossau

Starting point: Guinguette du Lac de Castet - Ayguelade district, BIELLE
Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes round trip

A pleasant, shaded walk on an obstacle-free path between the river and the forest in the heart of a peaceful natural setting.

Route:
From the main car park of the Lac de Castet nature reserve, head to the Guinguette du Lac (open only in summer) and take the path on the right.
At the end of the path, at the outdoor theatre, turn back (the signposts lead into the forest, where the path is difficult to navigate for people with reduced mobility).


Walk along the riverbank

Starting point: Izeste Town Hall, IZESTE
Duration: 45 mins round trip

A peaceful walk along the riverbank offering beautiful views of the valley's first mountains.

Route:
From the car park opposite the Town Hall: Go through the stone archway opposite and turn left towards Arudy until you reach the end of the road.
Alternative route (but narrower in places, with some roots protruding onto the path) 
From the car park opposite the Town Hall: cross the road and take the grassy path on the right to join the path towards the Louvie-Juzon Bridge. 


The blue footbridge

Starting point: Rue de la Pachère, LOUVIE-JUZON
Duration: 30 mins round trip

A peaceful walk along the riverbank leading to a blue footbridge where you can admire the Rey mountain in all its splendour.

Route:
Park near the Bersans garage and follow the road towards the river. Continue along the track to the footbridge. 
You can venture to the other side of the footbridge, on the left, but the path becomes less accessible for people with reduced mobility.

100% nature walks



Plateau du Bénou

Starting point: Plateau du Bénou car park, D294 BILHERES EN OSSAU
Duration: 1 hour round trip

This vast plateau in the middle of the mountains offers a pleasant bucolic walk in the heart of its green meadows where numerous herds of cows and horses graze. 

Route:
On the Col de Marie-Blanque road, 2 km after the Chapelle de Houndas, park at the crossroads car park (road on the left/track straight ahead).
Take this track there and back.
The marked trails on site are difficult to access for people with reduced mobility.


The horizontal walk

Starting point:
Casino, EAUX-BONNES
Duration: 1 hour round trip

On this walk along the horizontal promenade, you will follow in the footsteps of Empress Eugénie, which will lead you to breathtaking panoramic views of the villages of Laruns, Assouste and Aas.

Route:
Park above the arcades, next to the Casino. Take the track on the left.
Turn around at the drinking trough and the road junction.


The cycle route

Departure: BUZY - LARUNS
Duration: From 30 minutes to 6 hours return trip

The cycle route, Camin d'Aussau, is designed for bicycles, pedestrians, livestock, etc. It crosses the valley and can be accessed from several villages between Buzy and Laruns. 

Route:
Concrete surface, level ground.
However, be careful when crossing the main road and on the steep slopes at the exits of the cattle underpasses.

Viewpoints

 

The Cirque d'Anéou


Located on the Spanish border, the Cirque d'Anéou is a true natural gem of the Pyrenees National Park, offering spectacular panoramic views and breathtaking vistas of the southern face of the Pic du Midi d'Ossau.
This vast plateau surrounded by majestic peaks is home to numerous herds of cows, sheep and horses that graze on its vast green pastures throughout the summer.
Directly accessible from the trails that line the Col du Pourtalet road, it invites visitors to discover the local flora and fauna, while offering a peaceful and serene setting.

Practical information:

The car park is located along the road, before the Col du Pourtalet.
Be careful, there is a lot of traffic on this road!
Two disabled parking spaces are marked.
Please note that the paths leading to the Cirque are steep.
The landscape can also be admired from the road if the descent seems too steep. 
 

The Col d'Aubisque


The Col d'Aubisque is an iconic location in the Pyrenees, offering impressive panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.
Located at an altitude of 1,709 metres, this legendary pass is renowned for its wild beauty and varied landscapes, ranging from green meadows to rocky ridges.
Perfect for a coffee break in a sumptuous setting, it also allows you to discover the richness of the Pyrenean fauna and flora.
An ideal place to disconnect and admire the grandeur of the mountains.

Practical information:

Car park at the Col d'Aubisque.
Two disabled parking spaces. 
Breathtaking view of the Gourette and Litor cirque.
Accessible toilets on site.
The marked trails on site are difficult to navigate for people with reduced mobility.
